Dick Malcom Humanitarian Scholarship Fund

SUMMARY

The Dick Malcom Humanitarian Scholarship is in honor of Dick Malcom, who was a graduate of El Paso-Gridley High School.  Dick Malcom was a true humanitarian, both in life and his career. Dick left an impression on all that crossed his path. Whether it was his calming spirit, kindness to others no matter who you were, his dedication to his family, or his terrific sense humor he demonstrated what it is to be a humanitarian. He had a genuine concern for helping to improve the welfare and happiness of people.

ELIGIBILITY

Open to graduating El Paso-Gridley High School Seniors and past awarded recipients. Two (2) qualifying students will be selected and awarded $1,000 each. Award is contingent upon the recipient following the award criteria as outlined in the “Award Amount” section below.  If The Hourglass Foundation does not receive verification of enrollment and a confirmation on your college’s letterhead via email by July 15th, 2022, then the recipient’s award will be voided.  If the recipient has an extending situation, please communicate with Beth Ehresman or Stephanie Hiles, who in turn will communicate with The Hourglass Foundation. Recipient agrees to provide a quote (2-4 sentences) on the meaning of the scholarship and consents to its use on The Hourglass Foundation’s website and other media.

  • Minimum high school GPA of 2.5

  • Completed Application
  • School Transcript

  • Completed scholarship application

  • 1 letter of recommendation

  • Listing of extracurricular/volunteer activities
  • Completed Essay

ESSAY GUIDELINES

Topic:  What are ways that you can be a humanitarian, either personally or in your chosen field of study. Why do you feel this is important, especially in the world today?

Length: 400 – 500 words

AWARD AMOUNT

$1,000 – designated for tuition and fees. The scholarship recipient will contact their school’s financial aid office to contact The Hourglass Foundation and verify the following:

  1. Verification of enrollment either by letter or email on the school’s official letterhead.
  2. Confirmation email or letter should include: Payment address and contact name in the financial aid office, along with phone number and email address.

DEADLINE

The application deadline March 16,2022. Return all requested item to Beth Ehresman @ehresmanb@unit11.org or Stephanie Hiles, Guidance Counselor @ Hiless@unit11.org at El Paso-Gridley High School for submission to The Hourglass Foundation.
