Braden Markus Memorial Scholarship Fund

SUMMARY

Braden spent countless hours practicing to perfect his sports and studying to do well in school. He loved hanging out with the guys and gaming. He was best known for his smile, that could light up a room and make even the worst days for others better. His personality and laughter will be greatly missed. Braden was a hard worker that never stopped and would drop what he was doing to help anyone. This scholarship is to honor Braden’s spirit and to help others.

ELIGIBILITY

Olentangy
High School

Eligibility: Open to high-school seniors attending Olentangy High School. Scholarships are offered in the following areas:

 (7) Athletic Scholarships – various amounts from $2,270 to $10,722

  (2) Athletic Scholarship – open to applicants from 2023 who applied but did not receive an award – $2,270

  (1) Trade School Scholarship – $2,270

 (1) Music & Art Scholarship – $2,270

   (1) Military Scholarship $2,270

Olentangy
Liberty High School

Eligibility: Open to high-school seniors attending Liberty High School who are pursuing sports in college. Scholarships are offered in the following areas:

 (1) Athletic Scholarship – $2,270

 (2) Athletic Scholarship – open to applicants from 2023 who applied but did not receive an award – $2,270

Olentangy
Orange High School

Eligibility: Open to high-school seniors attending Orange High School who are pursuing sports in college. Scholarships are offered in the following areas:

 (1) Athletic Scholarship – $2,270

 (2) Athletic Scholarship – open to applicants from 2023 who applied but did not receive an award – $2,270

Olentangy
Berlin High School

Eligibility: Open to high-school seniors attending Berlin High School who are pursuing sports in college. Scholarships are offered in the following areas:

 (1) Athletic Scholarship – $2,270

 (2) Athletic Scholarship – open to applicants from 2023 who applied but did not receive an award – $2,270

REQUIREMENTS

  • GPA of 3.2 or greater

  • 2 letters of recommendation

  • Official school transcript

  • Completed essay (see below for details)

  • Listing of extracurricular/volunteer activities

  • Completed scholarship application

ESSAY GUIDELINES

Essay length: 400 – 500 words, double spaced.

Essay Topic – Pick one

  • In your own words, describe how your own story correlates to Braden’s passions for athletics. What has athletics taught you and how will it help you in the future?
  • What life lessons does sports teach?

AMOUNT

In 2023, five (5), $2,000 scholarships will be awarded for tuition and fees.

OTHER SCHOLARSHIP DETAILS

If you are chosen as the recipient, you will need to furnish verification of enrollment from your college financial aid office. PLEASE NOTE: Be mindful of all due dates for required documents as lateness could impact your award. Further details will be provided upon award announcement.

OPENS: October 2, 2023 **CLOSES: March 31, 2024
Award announcements: May 6, 2024

**The Closed Date is the date after which applications can no longer be accepted. If applying by mail The Hourglass Foundation will use the postmark date.  Please submit applications by March 31, 2024 to:
